You first of all need to know that the members of Rescue 3, are not much different than yourself, just everyday people that have another way for showing there love for the Desert and District 37 racers. They are also a darn good group to get to know, hopefully while your in an upright position.
I became a full member of Rescue 3 in September 06 at the Los Coyotes Dual Euro. Apparently I was voted in twice. Lucky Me, I can get kicked out once, and still be a Member. I was a charter member of the California Department of Forestry's CDF Mountain Bike Unit, where I received my Basic Life Support, and medical training. We worked mostly with large scale bicycle events. Like National Cross Country, Downhill racing and the Redlands Classic stage race, we would also give medical and crowd support for some of the long distance mountain running events.
I am not a competitive Racer, nor do I plan on becoming one. I do on the other hand, have several friends, that do race and have tried to get me to do the same, Nope not for me. I would do all I could to be the fastest, which almost always end, with me taking a nasty soil sample. I need to be home on Monday morning and provide for my Family in the way they are accustomed to, peanut butter and top ramen. O yeah nuthin but the best for my Kin. So instead of racing for Points, I'll race to an injured rider and get him/her packaged up and ready to go.
When I am not out the Desert working a race with Rescue 3, I am usually riding my Street Legal XR 600 on many of the D37 Dual Sport rides, pedaling on the trails and roads on one of my many Bicycles in the local mountains, or even sometimes playing my Doghouse Bass in a local Bluegrass band.

So next time you see a couple of guys in red jerseys out in the middle of nowhere on the course, know that Rescue 3 is out there Keeping watch
